1. Watten, Skye, & Wild Trout Challenge – Qualifiers Competition
To be held on Saturday the 22nd of April. Fishing to start at 09:30 and finish at 16:00. Boats allocated on a first come first serve basis, the charge to help costs will be £5 per head. 2 anglers to represent the club at the charity competition on Loch Watten, 2 anglers to represent the club at the Iain Urquhart memorial competition on Skye and two competitors to represent the club at the wild trout challenge on Shin. Competitors should inform the competition secretary as to which competitions they are entering before fishing starts. They can also put their name down as a reserve for a competition. Details of each competition in paragraphs 3, 5 & 6.

2. Meig Open
To be held on Saturday the 13th of May. Fishing to start at 09:00 and finish at 17:00. Entry is £40 per team. If you require hiring an outboard the cost will be an additional £10 including fuel. The Meig Open is a 3 in a team competition but in the interest of safety, only 2 anglers are allowed to be fishing at any one time. To end the day, a finger buffet, in the Cottage Bar, Maryburgh, will be included where the Billy Bartlet trophy will be presented to the winning team. The Meig cup will be presented to the rod with the heaviest bag & the Strathconon cup to the heaviest trout.
For the Meig cup trophy, as this is a 3-person team event, in the interests of fairness, any angler in a 2-person boat will be handicapped. This handicap will be a deduction of ? of any individual’s bag weight, for the Meig cup only.

3. Charity Competition Loch Watten
To be held at Loch Watten on Saturday the 13th of May. This competition has replaced the old federation day out and is now a charity event run by the Thurso British Legion. All of those wishing to represent the club should attend the qualifier on the 22nd of April when exact details of the competition will be available

4. Danfoss Shield & Achonachie Quaich
Saturday the 10th of June. The venue this year will be the Storr Lochs, Skye. The Achonachie Quaich which will be presented to the top rod, and the Danfoss shield will go to the heaviest trout in the winning team. If you catch nothing, or get picked on by the mob, the wooden spoon lurks in the shadows and could be yours. Cost £25 per head which includes bus, permit and a fish supper.

5. Portree All Nighter Competition
This competition is for the Iain Urquhart memorial cup. We have again been invited to put a two-man team into this competition on the Stoer Lochs, held on Friday the 23rd of June. The venue is the famous Stoer Lochs and starts at 18:00 with the weigh in at midnight. Those wishing to take part should attend the qualifier on the 22nd of April

6. Loch Shin. Clynelish Highland Wild Trout Challenge
To be held over two days, on either Saturday the 8th and Sunday the 9th or Saturday the 15th and Sunday the 16th of July. Saturday will be from 10 am to 6 pm and Sunday 9 am to 4 pm. All those wishing to compete should attend the qualifier on the 22nd of April. All entry costs for this competition will be met by the club for those who qualify.

7. Loch Shin. The Shin Open
The Shin Open competition will be held on Saturday the 15th or 22nd of July, starting at 10:00 and finishing at 18:00. All members who fancy fishing this open competition should contact the competition secretary. The main and extremely prestigious award in none other than the shin cup, which will be presented to the heaviest bag. The cost for the day will be no more than £15 per head, which includes boat, fishing and a meal back at the clubhouse.

8. Beauly Angling Club Watten Open Competition
To be held on Loch Watten on Saturday 29th July. Price and entry arrangements still to be finalised but pairs will need to provide engine. Boats booked for five pairs from LAAAC.

9. Junior Competition
To be held on Loch Fannich on Saturday 2nd of September. All senior and junior members to gather at the Stathpeffer Square by 08:00. Juniors may bring more than 1 rod but can only fish 1 rod at a time, fly only for seniors. Any help from members with 4 wheeled drive vehicles would be greatly appreciated. Afterwards, there will be a buffet at the keeper’s house. Note: All juniors not accompanied by a parent must sign a disclaimer form which can be obtained from the competition secretary.
9. SGL Competition
To be held on Saturday the 9th of September at the Badenlochs. Again we will be looking for all the support we can get. Last year we were just pipped to the post by Beauly and need all the help we can get to try and win the cup. If you can make it, please come along. Prizes will again be donated by SGL. Cost £30 per head which includes bus, permit and a fish supper in Helmsdale.

10. Loch Achonachie Members
As the title suggests, a competition for Loch Achonachie A.C. members only, from the boat on Loch Meig. To be held on Saturday the 30th of September. Start at 09:30 and finish at 16:30, 2 fishing per boat. To cover the cost there will be an entry fee of £15 per rod which also includes a finger buffet at the cottage bar in Maryburgh. After the buffet the Hydro quaich will be presented to the angler with the heaviest bag, the Sports & Model shop trophy for the biggest fish and the SGL quaichs for the 2 anglers in the best boat.

11. Loch Achonachie Winter League 2017-18
This season, starting in October/November, and running throughout the winter. The venues will be various trout fisheries throughout our region. The last date will be in March before we open our home waters. Full details of the competition will be issued with the end of season newsletter.

Competitions are an established part of the club’s activities with many fun days spent pitting our skills against other anglers from throughout the highlands. It is always gratifying to see new faces at any of our competitions so if you want to have a go please get in touch.
